Static or dynamic: which do you need?
A static QR code, like the ones this generator makes, stores its content directly in the black-and-white pattern. That makes it independent: it works offline, it never expires, and it doesn’t rely on any company staying in business. It also makes it permanent: if the web address changes, the code keeps pointing at the old one, and you can’t tell how many people scanned it. Static codes are ideal for things that won’t change, such as your Wi-Fi network at home, a phone number, or a link you control forever. For anything printed in quantity (menus, flyers, packaging, signs), a dynamic code is usually the safer choice, because it stores a short link you can re-point, pause and measure without ever reprinting.

Before you print
How do you make sure it scans?
- Test the download. Scan the PNG on screen with your own phone before sending anything to print.
- Use the SVG for print. It stays sharp at any size; the PNG is best for screens and social posts.
- Size it for the distance. Roughly 1 cm of code per 10 cm of scanning distance: 2–3 cm on a card, 10 cm or more on a poster.
- Keep it simple. Shorter content makes a less dense code that scans faster, especially when printed small.

Yes. There’s no account, no trial and no watermark, and the PNG and SVG downloads are yours to use in anything, including commercial print. It’s free because static codes cost us nothing to run: they’re generated in your browser and never touch our servers. We hope that when you need a code you can change later, you’ll remember us.
No. A static code stores its content (the link, text or Wi-Fi details) directly in the pattern, so it keeps working for as long as the print exists, whether or not BuildYourQR does. The flip side is that it can never be changed: if the link changes, you need a new code and a reprint.
A dynamic code stores a short link that we host instead of your content, so you can change where it goes after printing, pause it, and see how many people scanned it, when and on what. Static codes can’t do any of that. For menus, flyers and packaging where things change, a dynamic code is usually worth it. The first five are free.
No. The code is drawn in your browser with JavaScript, and the download is created on your device. Nothing you type into this generator (links, Wi-Fi passwords, messages) is uploaded, stored or logged by us.
Choose Wi-Fi, type the network name exactly as it appears on your router (it’s case-sensitive), pick the security type, usually WPA/WPA2, and enter the password. When a guest scans the code, iPhones and Android phones offer to join the network without typing anything.
